 File — Box: 2

Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

Photographs related to the career of George Hardy (1911-1990) a Canadian-American labor leader who served as president of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) from 1971 to 1980, and his father, Charles "Pop" Hardy (1891-1948), also a labor leader with the Building Service Employees International Union (BSEIU).

The bulk of the photographs feature George Hardy and document union activities including meetings, conventions, and strikes. There are three photo albums: In Memory of of Charles "Pop" Hardy; BSEIU 10th General Convention, Seattle; and the 1972 convention which was the first convention following George Hardy's rise to the presidency. This convention was held in San Francisco and among the photographed guests are many prominant local union and political leaders.

Loose photographs are sorted into folders of "Individuals" and "Subjects." Individuals are arranged alphabetically by the most prominent person other than George Hardy, as he is in almost all of the images. There are four subject categories: Conventions, Guards at Racetrack, Local Union Activities and Strikes.
