Scope and Content of Collection

Sound recording of interview conducted with UNITE HERE Local 2 employee Annie Kuang, conducted by Sarah Wilson. This recording is part of an oral history project documenting the historic 2004 hotel strike and lock-out in San Francisco that lasted 53 days. The struggle pitted a largely immigrant workforce against multi-national corporations which was part of a larger nationally coordinated contract campaign. Originally from Canton, China, Kuang worked in the housekeeping department at the Grand Hyatt Hotel until 2002 and joined the union staff full time to work for the Local 2 Step Training Program. In her interview, she describes her experience as a union staff member helping to support the strike.

UNITE HERE Local 2 employee and former housekeeper at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, joined the union staff full time to work for the Local 2 Step Training Program, originally from Canton, China, worked for Local 2 during the historic 2004 hotel strike and lock-out in San Francisco that lasted 53 days.
