Scope and Content of Collection

Sound recording of interview with UNITE HERE Local 2 member Aurolyn Rush conducted by Corey Datz-Greenberg. This recording is part of an oral history project documenting the historic 2004 hotel strike and lock-out in San Francisco that lasted 53 days. The struggle pitted a largely immigrant workforce against multi-national corporations which was part of a larger nationally coordinated contract campaign. Rush worked as a telephone operator at the Grand Hyatt San Francisco and served as a strike captain on the picket line. In her interview, Rush describes her participation in the boycott committee and her efforts to convince members to support the strike.
