Scope and Content of Collection

Sound recording of interview with UNITE HERE Local 2 Secretary-Treasurer Tho Do. This recording is part of an oral history project documenting the historic 2004 hotel strike and lock-out in San Francisco that lasted 53 days. The struggle pitted a largely immigrant workforce against multi-national corporations which was part of a larger nationally coordinated contract campaign. In her interview, Do, originally from Vietnam, discusses her duties as Secretary-Treasurer, the move towards national coordination among local unions and other steps taken by the union to prepare for the contract campaign, and her experience as an organizer on the campaign. She also describes her experience on the picket line during the strike and lockout.
