Scope and Contents

From the Series:

This series contains materials that Tim referred to as his "life’s work," including notes, some correspondence, and printed materials pertaining to his college days, work he did as a young man at the Jewish Community Center (1957), service in the military, work in community development training (1960s) and Legal Services Corporation (1970s). Also here, are Tim’s acceptance in 1970 of his job at San Francisco State College (later University), his attempts at tenure and promotions with letters of recommendation (1980s), and his retirement (2000). Several folders contain newspaper clippings on him and interviews, as well as two folders pertaining to his father, Jerome (Jerry) Sampson, also in the social work field. Separated from this series and put in the Tim Sampson Photograph Collection at the Labor Archives are several photographs from SEIU Local 250 (health care workers) and SEIU 87 (janitors); also photos of Tim with Cesar Chavez striking in downtown San Francisco, and a series of photographs from hearings on poverty in Firebaugh, California which Tim worked on with his father.
