Scope and Contents

Five posterboards with photographs and text on agricultural workers. Photographs taken by Ernest Lowe. Folder 1: "To support the efforts of agricultural workers to organize themselves and to bargain collectively with their employers..." Six mounted photographs of Norman Thomas, Ft. Thomas McCullough, Norman Smith, Larry Itliong, Dolores Huerta, and a group of people meeting titled "Evening meeting, Delano to Sacramento march." One missing unidentified photograph. Folder 2: "A countervailing force to the power of California agribusiness, its allies, 'fronts,' and political henchmen..." Seven mounted photographs showing California cotton crops; Edward F. Hayes, former chief of the California Farm Placement Service and current manager of the Imperial Valley Farmers Association; and braceros working with short-handle hoes. Folder 3: "To end exploitiation of women and children in agriculture by legislatin and by removing the reasons why women and minors must work to supplement the family income..." Five photographs plus two missing of women and children, some performing field work. Folder 4: "To help fight rural slums and poverty, not with 'band aids,' but by striking at the low-wage system in agriculture." Seven photographs showing rural buildings, a child in a field, and men working. Folder 5: "Wages and working conditions have been undermined by the use of foreign workers...while living conditions for American farm workers are even worse than those of braceros." Four mounted photographs plus one missing of huge crowd of men in Empalme, Mexico, waiting for contracts; agricultural fields; men working; and a women with two children in Mendota, Calif.
