Scope and Contents

From the Sub-Series:

Sub-Series 3.1: Subject Files contains information on a wide variety of women's issues, topics, and organizations Mixer consulted in the course of her work, with the bulk related to women workers and apprenticeships. Major topics include affirmative action, apprenticeships (reports, meetings, and guides), child care, labor law, women in midlife, pay equity, and sexual harassment. Other documented topics include material on federally-funded mega construction projects; affirmative action compliance and documentation; materials from women-serving organizations, including newsletters, correspondence, reports, and statistics; and published reports and papers on a variety of topics pertaining to working women. There are also two cartons of correspondence containing drafts and letters received by Mixer.

Educational and training materials provide extensive documentation on efforts to raise awareness of nontraditional occupational opportunities for girls at the K-12 level, and to attract college-age women to trade apprenticeships and careers. Topics include community college vocational programs, nonsexist text books, and careers in science and math. There are also materials from Tradeswomen, Inc. including administrative papers, anniversary booklets and calendars, Tradeswomen Monitoring Network records, and the organization's publications: Trade Trax Newsletter and Tradeswomen Magazine.

State and federal initiatives are also well documented, including Commissions on the Status Women at national, state and local levels. Items from the Women in Apprenticeship program contain correspondence, reports, and training materials, and materials from the Department of Industrial Relations, the California Apprenticeship Council, and the Division of Apprenticeship Standards. These materials include minutes, statistics, and reports. Also included are materials from the following California departments: Education, Justice, Transportation, EDD, and the State Personnel Board.
