Fiesta: A Comedy of the Mexican Revolution, undated
Scope and Contents
This subseries consists of typed and annotated manuscripts, a few reproductions, handwritten drafts, and bound copies of dramatic works.
Featured in this subseries are multiple typed, undated manuscript versions of The Honorable Pete, a play written by Michael Gold. Researchers approximate the play's creation at circa 1953. The play portrays Peter V. Cacchione (1897-1947), an Italian American Communist politican who led the Brooklyn section of the Communist Party and served as a member of the New York City Council. Cacchione, a World War I veteran, also led a contingent of the Bonus Marchers. The Honorable Pete provides a historical account of the Bonus Army marchers--World War I veterans who marched on Washington, D.C., demanding early payment of their pensions--and the violent suppression of their protest by General Douglas MacArthur. The play is written from the perspective of the victims.
