This collection was donated by Bill Walker who gathered papers from rank and file members of Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees (HERE) Local 2 covering the years 1978, when the HERE International Office put Local 2 in receivership, until the end of 1984. It contains several folders of official Local 2 documents, but no continuous run of minutes or correspondence usually found in collections of union records. There are also a few copies of two newspapers from 1941.

The bulk of the collection records the Local 2 strikes in 1980 and in 1984. Within Local 2 were several rank and file groups, some with newspapers slates of candidates at elections, and identified on many bulletins during the two strikes. Where there are folders of official Local 2 documents and similar rank and file documents, they are so identified. Significant are the newspaper clippings of the 1980 strike; unfortunately, there were only a few from the 1984 strike.
