Paul Chown papers
Abstract
The Paul Chown Papers consist of personal files related to Chown's work as a labor official and educator, including subject files on economic and collective bargaining issues (news clippings, pamphlets, booklets, publications, ephemera, mailings, and reports) and curriculum material related to workshops and classes Chown taught on collective bargaining, occupational health, labor studies and labor history. Also includes files related to Chown's work as an organizer for United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America, Local 1412 (Oakland, Calif.) which include leaflets, newsletters, contracts election material, and correspondence with the National Labor Relations Board. Also includes with some documentation on the jurisdictional disputes between the UE, IBEW and IUE, and on red baiting and communism. In addition, this collection contains an unpublished manuscript on the impact of the McCarthy Era on American labor movement and related research files.
