Biography

In her statement when she was a candidate for vice-president, Jan described her active participation in Union W.A.G.E. as beginning in 1976. It continues into the 1978–1979 period. She was elected Vice-President, served on the Executive Board, and was active in the San Francisco Chapter. Related Archival Materials

The Jan Arnold Collection is the third collection of Union W.A.G.E. documents to be received by the Labor Archives and Research Center. The first, Union Women’s Alliance to Gain Equality, (1986:022, 4.89 cubic feet) is the organization’s records which were transferred and processed at LARC in 1986. History of the organization, its structure, and activities over the life of its existence-- 1971 to 1982-- is well described this collection. It should be considered the primary resource for all research of Union W.A.G.E.

Two additional collections came from former members of Union W.A.G.E and reflect documents kept by those active members. The first is the Judy Syfers Brady Collection (2003:071, .5 cubic feet); the second is the Jan Arnold Collection.

Processing Information

Union W.A.G.E. materials were processed in 2011 by Carol Cuenod; 2 cartons of materials related to Arnold's affiliation with the California Federation of Teachers remain unprocessed.
