Scope and Contents
Scrapbook containing newsclippings documenting a strike in 1941-1942 by the Retail Clerks Local No. 1273 (Modesto, Calif.) and secondary boycotts affecting farmers' deliveries. Clippings document the escalation of the strike and the secondary boycott of drivers refusing to deliver "hot cargo" from farmers through advertisements by The Associated Farmers of Stanislaus County, the Mosedto Citizen's Commitee and the Stanislaus Central Labor Council; the fight, though local, was seen as a more broad attack on labor, in particular the AFL, as the Associated Farmers attempted to enact state-wide legislation banning secondary boycotts and "hot cargo" actions.
