Scope and Content of Collection
Sound recording of interview with UNITE HERE Local 2 member Humberto Munoz. This recording is part of an oral history project documenting the historic 2004 hotel strike and lock-out in San Francisco that lasted 53 days. The struggle pitted a largely immigrant workforce against multi-national corporations which was part of a larger nationally coordinated contract campaign. Munoz worked as a waiter and bartender at the Westin and Hilton on Fisherman's Wharf. In his interview, Munoz describes his experience on the picket lines and his experiences at work before and after the strike, including his participation in organizing within the hotels to sustain the contract campaign through 2006.
