Scope and Content of Collection
Sound recording of interview with UNITE HERE Local 2 member Jim Taylor. This recording is part of an oral history project documenting the historic 2004 hotel strike and lock-out in San Francisco that lasted 53 days. The struggle pitted a largely immigrant workforce against multi-national corporations which was part of a larger nationally coordinated contract campaign. Taylor served as a banquet bartender at the Palace and Hilton hotels. In his interview, Taylor describes his experience as a member of the negotiating team and as an active participant on the picket line.
