Scope and Content of Collection
Sound recording of interview with UNITE HERE Local 2 member Leslie Salmeron. This recording is part of an oral history project documenting the historic 2004 hotel strike and lock-out in San Francisco that lasted 53 days. The struggle pitted a largely immigrant workforce against multi-national corporations which was part of a larger nationally coordinated contract campaign. Originally from Nicaragua, Salmeron worked as a room cleaner for the San Francisco Hilton during before getting hired by Local 2. In her oral history, shop steward and negotiation team member Salmeron discusses the difficult process of garnering support for national contract coordination, shares her experiences on the picket line, and describes her experience of the contract campaign at the Hilton.

UNITE HERE Local 2 member and former housekeeper at the San Francisco Hilton, originally from Nicaragua, served as a shop steward and was a member of the negotation team in the lead-up to the historic 2004 hotel strike and lock-out in San Francisco that lasted 53 days.
