Scope and Content of Collection
Sound recording of interview with UNITE HERE Local 2 union field representative Tina Chen. This recording is part of an oral history project documenting the historic 2004 hotel strike and lock-out in San Francisco that lasted 53 days. The struggle pitted a largely immigrant workforce against multi-national corporations which was part of a larger nationally coordinated contract campaign. In her interview, Chen details the demands of the workers for healthcare and wage increases, and describes her experiences as a union representative leading up to the strike and lockout and as a member on the picket line. Chen served as a union field representative at the Hilton Hotel.
