Abstract

Consists of a staple-bound volume of short stories and poems by San Francisco writers working under the authority of the Works Progress Administration (WPA) Federal Writers' Project in San Francisco, on the American Guide and other publications. The volume was compiled by an editorial board comprised of Lawrence Estavan (chairman), Miriam Allen de Ford, Leon Dorais, Robin Kinkead, Kenneth Rexroth, and Richard Roman, with the intent of promoting "...the establishment of Federal magazines for creative writers in every locality capable of supporting them" (Introduction, p. iii).
