Dr. Richard H. Fine (1940-2015) was an activist doctor. He was the official physician for the Black Panthers and ran a clinic for American Indians when they occupied Alcatraz. At San Francisco General, he created one of the first outpatient clinics at a public hospital in the U.S. During the 1968-1969 SFSC student strike he created a local chapter of the Medical Committee for Human Rights through which he and his team treated people (campus members, students, community members and dogs) for a variety of injuries and health issues related to police tactics including tear gas exposure.
