Biographical / Historical
The SFSU AIDS Coordinating Committee was founded in the fall of 1985. It was originally an ad-hoc task force devoted to educational programs that organized and established the first AIDS Awareness Week within the CSU system. Subsequently, the California State University system mandated all campuses develop committees to address the educational, personal, medical, administration, and legal problems of campus members with HIV/AIDS in the spring of 1986. The SFSU AIDS Coordinating Committee was established as a campus-wide committee comprised of faculty, staff, students, and administrators to represent all sections of SFSU’s campus in fall of 1986. The main goal of the Committee was to support the development of programs and educational services concerning HIV & AIDS. The Committee worked alongside a Steering Committee to implement SFSU’s AIDS Policy. ACC met on a regular basis throughout the academic year to contribute to HIV/AIDS services including: workshops, programs, speaker honorariums, peer education programs, and curriculum integration as well as providing medical support through the Student Health Services and the Cindy Kolb Fund.
